Taxi
Since 2001 the laws governing taxis in Amsterdam have relaxed somewhat and it is now possible to hail a taxi on the street. Taxis are easily identified as they have signs on their roofs and blue licence plates. All taxis are metered and start with a flat rate (around 3.00 Euro), then cost 1.80 Euro per kilometre. If you are unable to hail a taxi on the street then there are many taxi ranks, for example outside Centraal Station, the bus station at the junction of Kinkerstraat and Marnixstraat, Rembrandtplein and Leidseplein.

If hailing a cab from the street or rank, select your taxi carefully and remember in Amsterdam you are not obliged to take the first taxi in the line at the rank.

You can also call a cab from Taxicentrale Amsterdam, the 24 hour taxi switchboard 020 6777 777, a taxi will arrive almost immediately.
